MACH 5 ATHLETE HIGHLIGHT: Lynn Burke
Lives in Houston
Best Race ever: No Label Sprint – didn’t feel good, slept through my alarm, barely made the swim start – finished top of the podium, finally had a run I was proud of. You never know what each race will bring, but always glad to make the attempt and find out.
Favorite Race and why: My First Tri in 2008 – my first race, placed 48th out of 60 in first timers group, biked 12mph for six miles and struggled through the 2 mile run, but was hooked on the sport and this marked the beginning of an amazing journey of improved health, perseverance and challenging self-imposed limits.
Toughest workout: racing IMTX 70.3 as the final workout of a grueling 4 day IMTX camp
Proudest accomplishment as an athlete: IMTX, never wanted to do it, then never thought I could, then injured foot and knee leading up to event – did it anyway, made lots of mistakes, beat projected goal time and exceeded my expectations of what a personal accomplishment feels like. Looking forward to my next IM event!
Favorite food: salt and vinegar potato chips
